Naomi Fisher: Clear Cut

Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art: April 15–July 10, 2005

Naomi Fisher, Untitled (ocean), 2004 Cibachrome, 50 x 60 inches Private Collection, Miami

Miami-based Naomi Fisher creates psychologically and sexually charged drawings and photographs in which tropical landscape, decorative pattern, and fairytale figures collide in nightmarish scenarios. Her brilliantly hued images of women in menacing nature scenes are drawn from characters imagined or inspired by horror films, feminist literature, music, and art history. Fierce yet beguiling, Fisher's works occupy the shifting terrain between beauty and repulsion. Naomi Fisher is a visiting artist at the Kemper Museum.
